Isopropyl Myristate
Isopropyl Myristate, or IPM as is most commonly known, is a synthetic oil which is used for its moisturizing and emollient benefits. Although it is a synthetic product, its benefit in certain formulations is superior to other products. IPM has an amazing ability to penetrate and moisturize the skin, as well as helps to eliminate the greasy feeling in certain products with a lot of oil. I use IPM in my body butterfor this reason, as well as for the multitude of benefits in a body butter.
Since IPM is so superior in its ability to penetrate and moisturize the skin, a very small percentage of people might experience irritation or acne inflammation and should be avoided for use on the face of acne-prone individuals. IPM is the perfect additive for body butters and products used for extremely dry skin in order to utilize its many benefits in a product containing a high percentage of butters and oils.
